Disabled students at METU
According to the Turkish Disability Act (2005, Article 15), “The right of education of disabled people cannot be prevented for any reason. They must be provided with equal education with disabled people and in inclusive environments by taking the special conditions and differences into consideration’.
The Higher Education Council (YÖK) 2006 directive (Turkish only). Universities in Turkey must establish a Disability Coordination Unit, and disabled students can now apply for suitable support.
In 2004, METU Disability Support Coordination Unit was established to investigate problems faced by disabled students and develop suitable systems so that all students are able to participate during their time at METU.
If you have a disability, please fill in the attached
questionnaire. This will help us develop better support and alternatives to ensure all students have equal opportunities while studying, living and participating in activities at METU. All work so far has been done by working together with disabled METU students looking for better conditions.
